Our Founder
Tom Golisano
B. Thomas Golisano is an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and civic leader born and raised in Rochester, New York, who has demonstrated an ongoing dedication and commitment to building innovative businesses, supporting numerous non-profit organizations, and advocating for inclusive health and several civic issues. He has contributed over $300 million to many Upstate New York organizations, children’s hospitals, and other non-profit organizations. He also has a family foundation that specializes in assisting organizations that serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Mr. Golisano is the founder of Paychex, Inc., the nation’s largest human resource company for small to medium-sized businesses, providing integrated human capital management solutions for payroll, benefits, human resources, and insurance services for more than 730,000 clients in the U.S. and Northern Europe. He was also owner of the Buffalo Sabres hockey team, was a three-time candidate for governor of New York, and is an investor in more than 25 outside enterprises. His investments have helped drive the success of numerous businesses and start-ups.
Mr. Golisano has received six honorary doctoral degrees from Rochester-area colleges and universities. He has written two books entitled Built Not Born and The Italian Kid Did It!

Degree Partner – Small
Joint Degree Programs
For graduates that want to eventually pursue a bachelor degree, the Institute has joint degree partnerships with four colleges and universities. All of these options provide high-quality options and significantly reduce the overall cost of a bachelor degree.
Degree Partner – Block
Golisano Institute graduates admitted to Syracuse University’s College of Professional Studies online undergraduate program will receive an Accelerated Leaders grant. The grant provides a 38 percent tuition reduction of the Syracuse University part-time per credit rate for the academic year in which the student is admitted. Under the Accelerated Leaders grant, tuition will be $450 per credit hour.

Accounting I: Financial Accounting introduces the fundamental concepts and principles of accounting. This course is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements. You’ll gain a deep understanding of how financial transactions are recorded and reported, and how this information supports decision-making in various organizational contexts.

Applicants are required to submit a copy of their High School Transcript or High School Equivalency completion, as well as to detail any experiences in the workforce over the last 5 years.

Step 3:
Interview and ACT WorkKeys Math Assessment
Upon submission of the application, students can sign up in the application portal for an interview and ACT WorkKeys Math Assessment. Both are required of all applicants as a way to assess motivations, attitudes towards personal growth, academic competency, and fit within our culture of collegiality and respect.
Step 4:
Response
Once the 3 steps above have been successfully completed, the admissions committee will review your application components, and you will receive an admissions decision in the application portal within 10 business days.
